Recommended Websites Car Engine Overheating Solutions Overheating can happen in an unexpected time and place and this can severly damage your engine. When you are driving and this happens, the best thing to do is stop your car and determine the cause of the problem. Here are some simple solutions that you can do to troubleshoot an overheated car engine: When you notice a smoke coming out under the hood, don't open it. Remember that the smoke might burn your skin! Instead, release the lever of the hood under the dashboard. Turn off the engine and wait for a few minutes. Then, open the hood to let out the steam completely. Check what seems to be the problem. Before you touch anything, make sure that everything is cooled off. The engine has a cooling system to help not to overheat the engine, so make sure to check that first. Check the coolant reservoir tank and the hose. Also inspect if there are leaks in it. The overheating might be due to coolant system malfunction. You can use a ductape to cover any damage temporarily. Afterwards, open the radiator cap with a rag. One of the most common overheating problems happens in radiator cap. Carefully open it and check if it's damaged. The radiator cap holds pressure and if it's not working, the cooling system will not become pressurized. Look inside the radiator and see the condition of the coolant. Check the fan belt too. If it's broken, the water pump will not work and other engine components. Let the engine cool for a few minutes before restarting the engine. Check the temperature gauge if it's still hot. Turn off the engine if it's still on the red zone. Once it's ready to run, consider heading to a nearest auto repair shop for further checking. Automotive
